This collaboration involved representatives from The Presidential Court, The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), Dubai Municipality, Emirates Food Bank Foundation, and the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
High-level discussions with Denmark's Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries, Ministry of Environment, and Copenhagen Municipality, along with interactions with non-profits like Food Nations and the 1/3rd Initiative, highlighted effective strategies for food waste reduction and environmental sustainability. Field visits to food waste recycling facilities and sustainable farming operations showcased advanced technologies and practices that can support the UAE's food loss and waste reduction goals.
Denmark's success in managing food waste through public-private partnerships and voluntary collaborations offers valuable strategies for the UAE. Conversely, ne'ma's collaborative model and industry data were recognized by Danish officials. Promoting initiatives like Denmark's "Food Nation" could also enhance national sustainability efforts. ne'ma Gathers Key Partners to Deliver Impact Through "Zero Food to Landfill" Circular Framework at World Future Energy Summit and Hydrogen Summit at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2024 |
The framework facilitated the rescue and redirection of food surpluses to those in need while converting food waste into fertilizer for local farmers, thus diverting waste from landfills.
Visitors enhanced the framework's environmental benefits by being nudged to consume food responsibly during the event. For the first time, separate food waste bins were introduced to the visitors across the exhibition dining areas. Separating food waste from the rest of the waste is crucial for measuring and treating food waste in the right manner.
Implementing this framework at major events, like ADSW, is crucial for reducing food waste on a larger scale, as it helps decrease environmental footprints, promotes sustainability, and sets a strong example for future initiatives.
In only three days of the World Future Energy Summit event, the tangible impact was created:
|
1,447 kg
Food Waste Diverted from Landfill
|
728
Meals Rescued and Donated to Communities in Need
|
3,675 kg CO2e
Greenhouse Emissions Avoided
|
